What is CoWin?
CoWin™ is a powerful work dynamic that we developed, based on years of practical experience in mental healthcare and a passion for technology. We translated this unique work dynamic into a hardware and a software solution, CoWin™ and GRASP™.
What does CoWin™ cost?
That depends on many factors: for example whether you choose CoWin™ or CoWin™ Play™, the projected location and how the media wall is to be installed, the number of CoWin™ systems, etc. The more concrete your request, the better able we are to provide you with an accurate quote. What is the difference between CoWin™ and CoWin™ Play™?
The main difference is the purpose for which the specific CoWin™ is to be deployed. The CoWin™ system was primarily developed as a de-escalation solution for acute and forensic psychiatry and it meets the highest security requirements. The hardware is therefore constructed to be exceptionally rigid and pretty much indestructible, but it is also relatively expensive to buy. The CoWin™ Play™ was primarily developed as a communication, interaction and recreation solution of medium security. The CoWin™ Play™ is constructed very sustainably, but with less strict security demands, which makes the CoWin™ Play™ substantially more affordable than the CoWin™.
Is CoWin™ better dan the CoWin™ Play?
They are different solutions for different purposes. Each purpose has its best CoWin™ solution
Is CoWin™ a hardware solution?
Hardware forms a part of our total solution. The total solution is a work dynamic between client and care worker in which both our hardware and our software offer powerful support.
What is GRASP™?

Don't people in a mental crisis need fewer stimuli rather than more?
We often come across this remark or comment. In practice, our experience shows that the opposite is true. We live in a highly technological society and we see that people generally intuitively recognise what the CoWin™ is meant for and find a high level of tranquillity and relaxation with it.
Why would you reward difficult clients with a media wall?
We believe that this assumption is fundamentally flawed. It rests on the premise that we shouldn't reward someone who is psychotic and displaying very rebellious behaviour with an overly comfortable stay. On the contrary, there is often a need for safety, human contact and the possibility of being able to leave that space soon. CoWin™ meets this natural need which is why we see that everywhere CoWin™ has been implemented, the duration of forced containments has been significantly reduced, because clients de-escalate faster.
Do you get some training with a CoWin™?
Both care staff and the person(s) responsible for the ICT are given a CoWin™ training session by a specialist, and both the theory and the hard and software are expertly explained.
What is the lifespan of a CoWin™solution?
A CoWin™ solution is a relatively expensive investment for a care organisation. All the hardware solutions we develop are built to be used very intensively for years and years. Regular firmware updates keep the GRASP™ software platform fully up to date and together, this ensures a minimum depreciation and an optimum yield. In addition, Recornect strives to deliver an exceptionally high level of service.
Are there regular updates for GRASP™?
The GRASP™ software platform is in continuous development. Through regular updates, we make sure that all our solutions operate securely and to the highest level.

How strong is the CoWin™ media wall?
The CoWin™ de-escalation solution meets the highest security requirements for psychiatry, forensic psychiatry and the judiciary. The media wall is fitted with more or less indestructible armoured glass that can withstand even being struck hard with a sledgehammer. This makes CoWin™ an extremely safe and reliable solution, particularly for acute and forensic psychiatry and the judiciary.
Can clients just use any or all apps?
Care staff always manage the applications that can be used on a CoWin™ solution. They can be activated and de-activated, and allocated to a client, by means of a special app.
Are there social media apps on CoWin™?
CoWin™ is exclusively aimed at a fruitful working relationship between care worker and client and offers only applications that support this dynamic. Social media do not meet this criterion although in some cases, an exception might be made for Spotify or YouTube, for example, depending on the specific situation.
Is CoWin™ available in all languages?
In principle, CoWin™ can be installed in all languages.
Is there a translation app on CoWin™?
There is one in development right now. After extensive beta testing in the near future, it will be rolled out through a firmware update.
Can you phone with CoWin™?
CoWin™ supports communication and video communication through a special app in the GRASP™ software platform, an option that is allocated and supervised by care staff.
How do you switch a CoWin™ on and off?
CoWin™ is equipped with a manager app that can switch a CoWin™ solution on and off.
I already have more than enough to do on my unit and this sounds like a complicated system. Is it?
All you need to understand CoWin™ and GRASP™ through and through is a half-day training session.
Is CoWin™ watertight?
The CoWin™ de-escalation solution meets the highest security requirements. That means that the hardware is fitted with a special sealant that makes the system impenetrable for moisture
Why is the CoWin™ orientation in portrait mode?
Extensive research in practice showed that a portrait orientation in the de-escalation applications is the most effective.
Why is the orientation of CoWin™ Play™ landscape?
The CoWin™ Play is aimed at recreation, communication/interaction and education and a landscape orientation seems to be the most effective for this application.
Is the CoWin™ 48 better than the CoWin™ 32?
The two CoWin™ solutions are identical. The only difference is in the size of the screens, 48 inch and 32 inch respectively. That naturally makes the CoWin™ 32 more affordable, but only due to the smaller screen. The construction and performance are identical.
Is there anywhere I can exchange experiences with care colleagues?
Our development team is looking into this. We can't be more concrete at present but we acknowledge the need and endorse the importance of such a platform.
What software does CoWin™ use?
CoWin™ works with software called GRASP™, specially developed by Recornect. You can find more technical specifications, for example for IT departments, in our download centre.
What kind of screen does CoWin™ use?
A 1920 x 1080 high definition screen.
Does CoWin™ come with a remote control?
CoWin™ has no physical remote control. It comes with a manager app that can be installed by care staff on a tablet or computer, for example.
Can you install CoWin™ in any space?
Recornect has years of experience with installing CoWin™ solutions, even in the most challenging of locations. Our installation team collaborates closely with both architects and building contractors and always ensures an optimum installation result.
Is CoWin™ suitable for people with an intellectual disability?
Thanks to its intuitive GRASP™ software, CoWin™ is extremely easy to operate, with a broad range of apps available. So CoWin™ is often deployed in care organisations for children with an intellectual disability, for example.
Can I order CoWin™ Play in all colours?
CoWin™ Play can be ordered in four colours: powderwhite, sand beige, light grey and lava.
Can I personally put apps on CoWin™?
It isn't possible to personally install apps. However, it is possible to install web apps, in agreement; YouTube, for example, or Wikipedia. Naturally, suggestions for apps are always welcome. You can share them with us through support@recornect.com.
Can I build CoWin™ into an existing environment?
In principle, CoWin™ can be built onto or into every conceivable environment. Our installation experts have years of experience in the most challenging of environments. Based on your wishes, we will always find a solution.
Can a client just surf the Internet?
CoWin™ was primarily developed as a communication solution between client and care worker. In addition, there are strict security requirements in the judiciary for 'open connection'. CoWin™ meets the strictest security requirements applicable.
Can a client autonomously make a call or video call to the 'outside'?
With CoWin™, this feature can only be used under the supervision of care staff.
Can a client choose for themselves which apps they use?
All the applications a client can use are allocated by the care staff.
Can residents with very limited cognitive abilities also use CoWin?
CoWin has applications that work more on an intuitive level than a cognitive level, so there are always enough offerings for everyone to relax or explore.
The levels and needs on the ward vary greatly, how do you deal with that?
Together with the care staff, we look at what a resident's individual needs are. During training, the staff learns how to create individual profiles so that the offer always matches the personal needs of the user.

Shouldn't patients in crisis actually receive as few stimuli as possible?
Patients in crisis often still need contact, autonomy and control. CoWin meets these needs in a powerful but safe way.
Why should we reward someone who has been violent with a media wall?
When violence is caused by loss of control, the challenge is to regain peace as quickly as possible so that contact becomes possible again. CoWin supports this, in a safe way. It is our experience that departments experience great benefit from quicker de-escalations in the event of crises.
Can a patient just get on the Internet? Or make phone calls?
No. An open Internet connection and the ability to make calls are functionalities that can only be assigned by staff. This is true for almost all applications, by the way.
Can a detainee just get on the Internet? Or make phone calls?
Open Internet and the ability to make phone calls are obviously not possible.
Both the online environment, and the applications that can be used are fully adapted to the high security requirements that apply within correctional centers.
Why reward detainees with a media wall?
CoWin is a solution, not a reward. It provides both staff and detainees with powerful tools to recover faster and stay connected in a safe way. Where CoWin is implemented we see very positive results, including decreased workload in crisis departments.
Many different languages are spoken within our correctional center, is that a problem?
CoWin can be delivered in a base language of your choice, with additional multi-language support if needed. This ensures that CoWin leads to positive results within different cultural backgrounds. Recornect also works daily on language and cultural improvements and innovations.
Can users get on social media?

Can users do schoolwork on CoWin?
Our CoWin Play allows users to work on school and study assignments within an electronic learning environment.
